Fastelavn 2025
Grade 0-4 students celebrated Fastelavn, a fun and festive Danish tradition!
What is Fastelavn? Fastelavn is a Danish carnival-like celebration where children dress up in costumes, play games, and take turns hitting a decorated barrel!
The goal is to break the barrel and become the "Cat King" or "Cat Queen", a title given to those who knock down the last pieces. Traditionally, a cat was placed inside (don’t worry, not anymore!), but today, we fill it with treats instead. The day is also marked by singing songs and enjoying delicious fastelavnsboller—special Danish cream-filled buns. Our celebration included: A morning assembly with songs and rule explanations Barrel-bashing in the gym for each grade level Fun classroom activities exploring the history of Fastelavn Crowning of our Kings and Queens Tasty fastelavnsboller for all! A huge thank you to all teachers, volunteers, and staff for making this event a fantastic experience for our students!
